STEMy Stuff
Providing educational experiences for youth since 2018.
For 10 glorious days in July 2017, there existed a place called STEM Quest. Encompassing six acres at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, it was brought to life by the dedicated work of over 450 volunteers, 1/3 of whom were youth (under 25 years age), and part of the 2017 National Scout Jamboree. Over the course of the event, Scouts and Scouters interacted with activities in over 40 different program areas, totaling almost 100,000 visits. Over 64 program operating hours, we provided over 16,700 hours of volunteer service to the Jamboree participants. Including setup and teardown, it was well over 22,000 volunteer hours onāsite – not including 2.5 years of planning. In its inaugural year, over 900 Jamboree Nova awards were earned by youth participants, as well as over 3,000 Quest for STEM Awards were earned by visitors. We trained over 100 adults in STEM Nova, as nova counselors and Supernova mentors. |
